On 2 June, 2012 Debut chess club in Almaty was the venue for the 9th KPMG Chess Tournament.
The Tournament is organised by KPMG annually gathering the best chess players from Kazakhstan banks and financial institutions to promote this ancient intellectual game. This year 16 teams, composed by three players, participated in the tournament to put their chess skills and tactics to a test and compete for the Cup. International-level Grand Master from Debut chess club acted as a referee.
Virtually all the teams have run internal qualifying rounds before the competition, which highlighted the commitment and the dedication on the part of all teams and all players in the tournament. All the teams were divided into two groups, with the two best teams from each group competing for the Cup in the final round.
The competition was really tough and the winner in the team tournament was Alliance Bank in Taldykorgan (17.5 scores), the only team outside Almaty; second place - Temirbank (16.5 scores); third place – the Eurasian Development Bank (14 scores).
